In the last 15 years, mattresses have been made 45% thicker and almost 50% heavier than in the past. This means that the need to properly support the mattress has become even greater. There are several products that can be used to support a mattress.
Bed Frame Leg
Below the mattress, there is often a box spring, which is a wooden frame covered by cloth. It is usually supported by a bed frame.
A bed frame is made of strong wood or metal and includes head, foot and side rails, as well as legs to hold it above the floor. The bedframe acts as a brace for the box spring, and together, they support the mattress. Since older bed frames cannot always support heavier mattresses, heavy duty bed frames are now being produced from railroad steel.
A wooden bed requires a different product-a bed support-sometimes called a center support. A bed support is a set of metal bars with legs that are installed into wooden beds to support a mattress and box spring. A good bed support will provide support even if the bed is moved sideways. For consumers with wooden beds, a strong bed support often means they can buy one of the new, heavier mattresses without having to replace the entire bed. The bed's wooden slats tend to bend or break and damage the mattress. However, a strong bed support can be installed to replace the slats and thus protect the mattress warranty. Installation of the center support should not be too complicated; one screwdriver should do the trick.
